I’m a junior in college and live on my own.I have never had a checking account or debit card. I mainly always use cash, and I refuse to get a credit card. Recently, my mother suggested I get a checking account/debit card so I won’t have loose money lying around my apartment (I tend [...]
When I use my bank card to purchase something I’m asked credit or debit. Sometimes I say credit, and other times I say debit. What exactly is the difference?

Say I buy an item for £20 - how much does it cost the shop to process my card for payment? Is it the same for online transactions (the charge made by the bank to the merchant)? I’m not talking about credit cards, just debit such as Maestro.
